FA Youth Cup: Canvey Island 2 - 1 Boreham Wood
Canvey Island reached the 1st Round Proper of the FA Youth Cup for the first time in 11 years following a 2-1 win against Boreham Wood at The Prospects Stadium this evening.
The Gulls took the lead in the 42nd minute through Ronnie Winn, shooting across Wood 'keeper Dan McAteer into the bottom corner.
The visitors equalised 5 minutes into the second half thanks to a good finish from striker Robert Hastings, but Canvey rallied and pushed to regain their lead.
Their endeavour paid off on 69 minutes when the ball fell to George Cocklin who drilled a low shot into the net from 25 yards.
Boreham Wood had a glorious chance to take the match to extra time with 3 minutes to play, but they spurned the chance by shooting wide of the target from close range.
Canvey will now travel to Hoddesdon Town in the 1st Round Proper.
