U16's Latest Youth Team To Reach Cup Final!
Canvey Island Youth U16's Yellow are the latest team from our youth setup to have made it through to a cup final.
Tony Matthews' side defeated Corringham Athletic U16's Yellow 4-1 at The Sid Cope Recreation Ground on Sunday morning, and in doing so reached the Chelmsford Youth Football League U16 Knockout Cup Final.
Canvey played into a strong wind in the first half, with the visitors using the conditions to good effect by taking the lead midway through the half.
The Gulls countered the conditions by keeping the ball on the ground and passing their way out of their own half, and just before half time they equalised with a good passing move which resulted in Owen Davies drilling home an unstoppable shot from inside the box.
The timing of the goal gave Canvey the momentum going into the second half and they put plenty of pressure on the Corringham goal. The pressure finally told when Maeson Harding got on the end of an Owen Davies corner to put his side ahead.
Further goals from Max Saul and Michael Reed secured a place in the final for Canvey which will see a repeat of last year's final against Billericay-based side Intersports. Having lost 2-0 in last year's final, the young Gulls will be hoping to one better and lift the cup.
We congratulate the team on their fantastic achievement and wish them the very best of luck for the final!
