The Gulls had the better of the second half and had several chances to score, but couldn't find the net. One highly controversial moment occured when Rob King's goalbound shot was handled on the goal line by an opposition defender, with the penalty and inevitable red card not being awarded by the referee or his assistant. In the aftermath, John Easterford was sent off was supposedly pushing the referee, when in fact a simple collision between the two had occured.
Canvey kept pressing for the equaliser but Bury stayed strong defensively and took the three points back to Suffolk.
