We can confirm this morning that popular forward Evans Kouassi has unfortunately decided to leave the club in search of a new opportunity.
Kouassi joined the Gulls in 2020 as part of a raft of signings from then fellow Isthmian North side Heybridge Swifts, and he quickly established himself as a fan favourite in a season cut short by Covid, grabbing 4 goals in 17 appearances, as well as playing a big role in the Gulls journey to the 2nd Round Proper of the FA Cup.
It was in his first full season at the club however, where fans really got to see what he could do, and he formed a lethal striking partnership with Matt Price in the 21/22 season, scoring 34 goals in all competitions in a promotion winning season in the Isthmian North, where he was also crowned supporters Player Of The Season.
His goalscoring exploits weren’t just limited to Step 4 however, and he formed a new partnership upfront with Bradley Sach to grab an incredible 24 goals in 48 appearances to help the Gulls reach a 2nd consecutive playoffs, winning his 2nd successive Player Of The Season award in the process.
Unfortunately for Evans, much of his 23/24 season was cut short by injury problems, but he still managed to contribute 5 goals in his 19 appearances over the course of the season.
On Kouassi's departure, manager Brad Wellmen had this to say:
"Evans has been a talent for us & is an exciting player that can do great things. He really has had a massive impact on us as a club, given us some great memories, and he will be sorely missed by all. I wish him nothing but the best for the future!"
The club would like to place on record it’s thanks to Evans for all his efforts in a Canvey shirt, and we wish him all the very best in the next chapter of his football career.
