Canvey Island begin their pre-season campaign away from home this Saturday, as they make the short trip to Corringham to take on East Thurrock CFC.

Our Opponents
East Thurrock Community Football Club were formed in 2023 out of the ashes of the former East Thurrock United.

A staple of the South Essex football scene for decades, United rose to the heights of consistent National League South football in the mid 2010's.

However, sustaining a village club at a highly competitive level became a challenge after the lockdown period of 2020, seeing historical debts take their toll on the club as they crashed down to the Isthmian North in successive relegations, before eventually being liquidated in the autumn of 2023.

Supporters of the club rallied together however despite the disappointment, and laid the first brick in the establishment of new, fan owned community club to keep football alive in East Thurrock. The club so far has over 200 members, and will look to play their inaugural season after applying for a place in the 24/25 Essex Olympian League - Step 11 of English Football.

Our friendly match on Saturday will be the club's first official game.

The Gulls

Manager Brad Wellmen will be looking to build his squad around a nucleus of retained players, as Canvey prepare for another season of Isthmian Premier football.

This first match will be a chance for the Gulls to field test promising trialists, as the building blocks are put in place ahead of another competitive season at Step 7.
