Canvey Island continue a run of consecutive home pre-season matches on Tuesday evening, as they welcome National League neighbours Southend United to Park Lane.
Our Opponents
The Shrimpers need little introduction to fans of local football, with the side being a regular Football League staple until relegation from League 2 in 2021, and still remain one of the counties highest ranked sides.
The 21/22 saw the club beset by off the field issues from the start however, with a points deduction and transfer embargo meaning that manager and club legend Kevin Maher was down to bare bones on several occasions.
With the sale of the club to a consortium led by Australian businessman Justin Rees going through however, the team rallied and were unlucky to fall just short of a playoff place at the end of the season - a sign of their future ambitions despite the hefty recent setbacks.
With the sale of the club now almost finalised, Blues fans will be hopeful that the the club can challenge once more and return to the promised land of the Football League again.
The Gulls
The Gulls meanwhile, made it two pre-season wins from two on Saturday, as they recorded a 1-0 win over Southern League Central side Bishop’s Stortford at Park Lane.
Several more first team players returned to the fold from the start to make their season debut alongside a raft of promising trialists.
The Gulls were indebted to Bobby Mason's penalty save in the first half to keep the scores level. They'd grab the winner early in the second half, with a trialist bundling home a rebound after a penalty save.
