Canvey Island return continue their preparation for the upcoming Isthmian Premier campaign on Saturday, as they welcome Island neighbours Concord Rangers to Park Lane.

The Beachboys come into this game preparing for life as an Isthmian North side for the first time since 2010.

They played their trade as high as the National League South for the best part of 10 years, with their successful rise under the tenure of Danny Cowley, and successive internal appointments following his departure for Braintree Town, seeing the club upset the applecart against many high ranking sides.

However, despite reaching the FA Cup First Round Proper in 2020, the departure of long time chairman Ant Smith impacted the club off the pitch, seeing them enter a decline that resulted in two successive relegations, seeing them back at Step 8 after a long time away.

The Gulls met their Island rivals twice in the league last season, accomplishing a derby double with a 3-1 win at Thames Road followed by a 1-0 victory at Park Lane on New Years Day.

The Gulls meanwhile, continued their pre season preparations on Tuesday evening, as they fell just short against a strong Southend United side at Park Lane.

Despite taking the lead through a Conor Hubble penalty, they were pegged back through quickfire goals later in the first half, enough to see the visitors run out 2-1 winners by the full time whistle.

Despite the result though, Brad Wellman will be pleased with his sides spirited performance, in a match where the levels were certainly more even than many may have first anticipated.

With much of the first team featuring and a selection of promising trialists making their mark, he'll hope for similar levels of determination and commitment going into Saturdays match.
