Canvey Island take a trip away from home in their pre season preparation, as they travel to Isthmian League North side Heybridge Swifts.

The Swifts come into this game preparing for another busy season in the Isthmian League North.

They finished the 23/24 season in 7th place, seeing the club just fall short of a playoff birth. The playoffs are a regular target now for the Swifts however, having fined tuned themselves into one of the divisions more formidable sides in the last few seasons. Indeed, they did actually win one of those playoff campaigns, only to be cruelly denied a spot in the Isthmian Premier on PPG after an FA restructure.

Their manager in that playoff win, West Ham legend and briefly former Canvey player Julian Dicks, has returned to the club for his third spell in charge, and will hope to see his side compete again in ever more challenging division.

The Gulls last met the Swifts competitively back in February 2022, where goals from Michael Finneran and Elliot Ronto secured a 2-0 win on the way to promotion.

The Gulls meanwhile, mounted a spirited comeback in their last pre season match, coming from 2 goals down to draw 2-2 with National League South side Aveley at the Steves Taxi's Stadium.

Goals from Finlay Dorrell and a Trialist left the majority in attendance pleased with the performance.

With 3 pre season matches remaining, and promising trialists turning into first team names, Brad Wellman will be seeking another positive showing from his side on Saturday.
