Canvey Island look to take another step further in the Emirates FA Cup this weekend as they host Isthmian North side Felixstowe & Walton United at the Steves Taxis Stadium in the 2nd Qualifying Round.

Our Opponents

The Seasiders are a familiar name to the Gulls, with the two having competed in the Isthmian North for two fulls seasons together, along with two seasons curtailed by Covid-19. Our last meeting came back in the 21/22 playoffs, with the Gulls winning the semi-final clash 3-1 to progress to the final, in which they'd ultimately gain promotion.

Whilst Canvey have spent the last few years in the Isthmian Premier, Felixstowe have remained an ever present force in the North, regularly challenging for the playoffs, but finding themselves just a step short of promotion to Step 3 of the Non League Pyramid. They went close again last season, finishing 3rd in the table but falling short in a playoff semi again, as they were defeated on penalties by eventual winners Bowers & Pitsea.

They've started the new season on a positive note though, with 9 points from 4 games at the time of writing, seeing them sit 3rd in a still compact table. They reached the 2nd Qualifying Round of the Isuzu FA Trophy on Saturday, defeating Basildon United 4-2 at home, and in their journey to this round of the cup, they've already knocked out Bury Town and Leverstock Green.

They've maintained a strong core of Isthmian North talent since our last meeting, with players like Zak Brown, Billy Holland and Stuart Ainsley all mainstays in the side. Up front, their biggest threat comes in the form of Charlie Warren, with marksman already on 11 goals in all competitions.

The Gulls
Canvey meanwhile, came up short in the league once again last weekend, as they found themselves on the wrong end of another 3-2 defeat, this time to Dulwich Hamlet.

Despite levelling the game twice thanks to goals from Jamie Salmon and debutant Jaxon Brown, a red card for Salmon coupled with a controversial late winner for the visitors saw the Gulls finish the game empty handed, as their struggle for league form goes on.

In the last round of the cup, they overcame a stubborn Milton Keynes Irish side 2-1 thanks to a late Tobi Tinubu winner, and they'll hope that home advantage and higher ranking can play favour again to take another step closer to the 1st Round Proper.
