Canvey Island will be looking to win their first Essex Senior Cup since 2012 on Tuesday evening, as they battle Hornchurch in the final of this years competition at the home of Colchester United.
Our Opponents
The Urchins are familiar opponents to the Gulls, having been a fellow league rival for the last few seasons until their promotion to the National League South last season, winning the Isthmian League title to move up a division.
They've adapted to life at Step 2 of the Non League pyramid well, with the club sitting 13th in the table at the time of writing, comfortably clear of any fears of relegation and building towards a sophomore campaign inthe division next season. They come into this match on the back of a 3-2 defeat at home to Slough Town on Saturday.
Like ourselves, the Urchins entered the competition at the 3rd Round stage, and have defeated Maldon & Tiptree, Rayleigh Town, Hashtag United and Heybridge Swifts on route to the final - the later dispatched 4-0 away from home in the semi final.
Manager Daryl McMahon has plenty of talent in his side to use, both up and coming and experienced. West Ham loanee and Canvey local boy Mason Terry is a solid presence between the sticks. Harry Gibbs and Ryan Scott marshall the defence and are previous promotion winners with local rivals Aveley. The likes of Sean Scannell and Angelo Balanta have played their trade further up the pyramid and they have real goalscoring presence in the likes of Tommy Wood and Ollie Muldoon, among others.
The two sides last met each other in the Isthmian League Premier last season, where the Gulls recorded a resounding 4-1 win against the then champions, with Bradley Sach, Emmanuel Adebiyi, Conor Hubble and Sam Higgins all netting on the night.
The Gulls
Canvey meanwhile, go into the back of this game on the back of a moral boosting 4-0 win at home to Lewes on Saturday.
Goals from Chris Harris (x2), Kane Gilbert and Darren Foxley helped the Gulls claim a huge win at home to pit 7 points between themselves and the Isthmian League drop zone.
The Gulls path to the final has seen them defeat Buckhurst Hill, Dagenham & Redbridge, Brightlingsea Regent and Chelmsford City, with the later two requiring a penalty shootout win to progress.
This is the Gulls first appearance in the final of the competition since 2012, where they defeated Colchester United 1-0 at the then home of Thurrock FC, Ship Lane.
