Canvey Island play their final home game of 2023 on Saturday as they host Potters Bar Town in the Isthmian League Premier.
Our Opponents
The Bar have had a endured a difficult first half to the season, with a tough run of fixtures seeing them languishing in 19th place at the time of writing, positioned in the relegation zone, though only by a point.
Their December has been chequered for fixtures so far, with games against Hashtag United and Concord Rangers postponed due to heavy rain, meaning their last competitive game was away at Haringey Borough in the Velocity Trophy on December 5th - a game that saw them exit the competition on penalties.
They fared better in their least league match though, with a vital win away at fellow strugglers Kingstonian putting points on the board as they battle to move out of the drop zone.
Manager Max Mitchell may not have the biggest war chest in the league at his disposal, but what he does have are players who know the division. Experienced defenders like Rickie Hayles and Ryan Hervel marshall at the back, whilst up front the goal threats posed by Temi Babalola and recent arrival Darnall Goather-Braithwaite can't be overlooked.
Our last meeting with the Bar came back in early March, with the Gulls running out 5-0 winners at the Moviestarr Stadium. There were also five different scorers for every goal - with Conor Hubble, Bradley Sach, Rob Girdlestone, Elliott Ronto and Evans Kouassi all getting their names on the scoresheet.
The Gulls
Canvey meanwhile, will be looking to get back to winning ways themselves after a pair of defeats to Hashtag United and Horsham respectively.
Bradley Sach scored in the last of those fixtures on a long Tuesday away trip to West Sussex, but his equaliser was ultimately in vein as Horsham went on to win the match 2-1.
With three big away games coming up before the end of the calendar year - two in the league and one in the county cup - the Gulls will be looking for a win here to kick on and climb the table.
