Our Opponents
The Tags have enjoyed a solid first ever season at Step 7, adapting to life in the Isthmian Premier well on the back of last seasons title winning campaign. They will be looking to round out their last season at the Len Salmon Stadium in style as they make the move to Aveley's Parkside to join their successful women's team.
For those unfamiliar, Hashtag United were founded by YouTuber and social media influencer Spencer Owen in 2016. Starting as a more amateur collective, playing charity matches and running a prospects academy, they made the transition in semi-professional football in 2018. Since then, they've gone from strength to strength, earning three promotions in that time to place them in Isthmian Premier football.
Their first season at Step 7 has gone well, with the club placed in 11th place at the time of writing and well poised to go again next season. They also have the chance to end the season with silverware, as they recently earned themselves a place in the Velocity Cup final.
They come into this game in decent form, with two wins and two draws in their last five games. They were defeated last time out however, seeing an early 2-0 lead overturned as they were beaten 3-2 at home by Potters Bar Town last Saturday.
Jay Devereux certainly has the squad to cause issues for any side in the division, with exciting prospects like Matthew Woodbridge and Luke May-Parrott providing flair, whilst experienced Isthmian stalwarts like Percy Kianbegeni and Max Cornhill marshall the side.
We met the Tags away from home back on a freezing December afternoon, where a Conor Hubble consolation wasn't enough as they Gulls were humbled to a 3-1 defeat that afternoon - their first defeat to the Tags in all competitions.
The Gulls
Canvey meanwhile, are still seeking the safety net of Isthmian Premier safety as they look to reverse a poor run of form that has seen them without a win since February 10th.
They fell short again on Tuesday evening, going down to a 2-1 defeat to playoff chasing Horsham. A second half goal from Jamie Salmon reduced the arrears but despite a spirited performance, they were made to pay for first half errors.
The Gulls currently have a 15 point buffer between themselves and the relegation zone, but with teams below them picking up points, they'll be keen to reach the mathematically safety mark and plan ahead for another season of Isthmian Premier football.
***
Yellow Army, we thank for your support in this tough run of form. Despite the disappointment on the pitch, you were loud and proud in your support again on Tuesday, and we are grateful for you lifting the team in these testing times.
With eight huge games still left to play, they'll need this more than ever, and on a weekend where Non League football takes centre stage, there is every opportunity to put on display how your support is some of the best around.
See you all on Saturday.
Come on you Gulls!
