Canvey Island finish the 23/24 season this Saturday with one final home game, as they play host to Hastings United at the Moviestarr Stadium.
Our Opponents
The U's have enjoyed another good season of Isthmian Premier football since their return in 2022, with the club on course for their best league finish under the current chapter of the clubs history. Despite an early managerial change, they've been involved in the playoff picture for much of the later half of the season, only falling short towards the last hurdle. Despite this, they still have a chance for silverware, as they have qualified for a long awaited return to the Sussex Senior Cup final - where they'll play Horsham at Brighton's Amex Arena.
Despite a solid run of form after Christmas - in which they recorded some big results, including a rare defeat for this seasons champions Hornchurch - patches in their form, particularly in local derbies, have seen them fall just short of a coveted playoff spot. They've remained consistent against sides below them however, and rounded off their midweek campaign with a 3-1 win at Potters Bar Town on Tuesday night.
Manager Chris Agutter has done well to build a side to compete since his return to the club, and they have plenty of quality to go out and challenge again should they retain them.
A solid defence built by players like Ollie Black and the promising Sam Gale, have marshalled well in front of an equally solid keeper in Charlie Grainger. Up top is where the U's strength has been this season, with players John Ufuah and Tommie Fagg, impressive in their own right, but playing supporting cast to lead star Davide Rodari - the striker having notched a club record 34 goals this season.
The Gulls travelled to Pilot Field back in November, where first half goals from Jamie Salmon and Elliot Ronto were enough to see Canvey bring three points back to Essex - with a win and clean sheet on the road a feat that wouldn't be repeated again until late March.
The Gulls
Canvey meanwhile, have found their mojo again after confirming safety a fortnight ago, and they've won an impressive three games in a week - with the latest of those wins coming away at Cheshunt last Saturday.
Despite playing just 48 hours prior, the Gulls were good value for their win at they finished their away campaign with a 3-1 victory. Sam Higgins grabbed goals no.401 and 402 of his career before Rob Girdlestone rounded off Canvey's scoring in the second half.
