Canvey Island make the first of two trips around the M25 in two days on Thursday night, as they make the trip to Potters Bar Town for their penultimate away game in the Isthmian League Premier.
Our Opponents
The Bar have enjoyed a steady campaign as they play out the final month. Like ourselves, they've fallen short of challenging for the promotion places this time around, but have done more than enough to stave off any relegation worries.
They are 14th in the table at the time of writing, and have had a lot of games in hand to catch up on recently, including two 'home' games last week played at Haringey Borough.
This busy schedule has eaten into previously good form, having taken 3 points from their last 6 matches. That one win in 6 did come on Tuesday evening however, as they defeated temporary landlords Haringey Borough by a score of 2-1.
Despite having little to play for in the last few months, manager Max Mitchell has been quietly going about his business, assembling the makings of a strong side to compete again next year. Players like Ricky Modeste and Ricky Hayles provide invaluable league experience, whilst exciting attacking talents like Brandon Adams and Temi Babalola aren't shy of goals in attack. Their midfield now also boasts former Canvey favourite Charlie Edwards, who joined the Bar following his exit from Park Lane last month.
Our last meeting with the Bar came back in December, where a Conor Hubble goal was merely a consolation, as a depleted Canvey side were beaten 4-1 at the Moviestarr Stadium.
The Gulls
Canvey meanwhile, are now playing purely for pride in their last few games, with Isthmian Premier safety secure for another season.
They certainly bolstered that pride however on Tuesday evening, with a comprehensive 4-1 victory at home against league champions Hornchurch.
Goals from Bradley Sach, Emmanuel Adebiyi, Conor Hubble and Sam Higgins certainly gave a healthy Tuesday night crowd something to celebrate, as the Gulls started a period of 3 games in 5 games in the perfect manner.
