Canvey Island return to Isthmian League action this weekend, as they host Dulwich Hamlet at the Steves Taxis Stadium.

Our Opponents

The Hamlet are well known opponents to the Gulls, and are one of the more well supported teams in the division, averaging four figure crowds regularly at Champion Hill. Their ambition will be to challenge for promotion this season and return to the National League South, from which they were relegated in the 22/23 season.

They currently sit 13th in the table at the time if writing, having picked up 7 points from their opening 5 games. Their last league victory came on Bank Holiday Monday, where they defeated fellow South London side Cray Wanderers 2-1 at home.
In the FA Cup however, they suffered a setback, going out at the first hurdle as they were defeated 1-0 on Tuesday night by familiar rivals Leatherhead of the Isthmian League South Central, in a replay following the sides 2-2 draw at Champion Hill last Saturday.

Manager Hakan Heyrettin had the unenviable task of putting together a side to compete at the very top of the division last season, and this time around, he certainly has the personel to achieve such a mission.
Experienced Isthmian defenders like Sean Bonnett-Johnson and Michael Chambers are a challenge for any of the league's strike forces, whilst they have prowess in attack, with talented forwards Luke Wanadio and Anthony Jeffrey looking in the hunt for goals, along with talisman striker Danny Mills, who boats over 150 appearances for the Hamlet.

The two sides met twice in the league last season, with our opponents victorious on both occasions. The Gulls last home win over the Hamlet came back in 2017, where a solitary Steve Sheehan goal gave Canvey a 1-0 victory.

Canvey meanwhile, made it two wins on the spin last Saturday, as they defeated Spartan South Midlands side Milton Keynes Irish to secure their place in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Goals late in each half from Conor Hubble and Tobi Tinubu were enough to secure a 2-1 victory, following on from their first league win a week prior by the same scoreline at Bowers & Pitsea. There prize is another home tie against Isthmian League North side Felixstowe & Walton Utd in the next round.

Attention now turns back to the league though, and the Gulls will be looking to get more points on the board to propell them up the fledgling league table.

With a succession of home games coming up in September, we'll need you loud and proud again to cheer the boys over the line against some challenging opponents.

Parking
Parking at the Steves Taxi's Stadium is free to all but limited to first come / first serve. Additional parking can be found on the adjacent side roads, but please be mindful of our neighbours if using this option. Parking on Park Lane itself is also strongly advised against.
