Canvey Island return to Isthmian League action tomorrow evening, looking to put more points on the board as they host league new boys Cray Valley PM at the Steves Taxis Stadium.
Our Opponents
The Millers are a new face in the Isthmian League Premier this season, having won promotion and the Isthmian South East title in the 23/24 season. It was the latest in a number of high notes for the Eltham based club in the last few years, after previously making the FA Vase final at Wembley alongside promotion in the 18/19 season, before recent appearances in the 1st Round Proper - the last being a clash with South London Football League neighbours Charlton Athletic, whom they took to a replay after a 1-1 draw at The Valley.
They've carried on their good form into the new season, with the club currently sitting 8th in the table at the time of writing, with 4 wins from their opening 8 games. They've made good progress in Cup competitions too, into the 2nd Round of the Kent County Cup and making the 1st Round Proper of the Isuzu FA Trophy on Saturday after winning 3-1 away at Isthmian South East side Ramsgate.
Manager Steve McKimm has a wealth of Isthmian League knowledge, previously having managed at Tonbridge Angels and Carshalton Athletic, and his squad on the pitch reflects the ethos he instills in his side. They have Isthmian League experience across the park, with players like Barney Williams, Tom Beere and Lyle Della-Verde among others all having seen success at Step 3 and beyond. The goals of forwards Freddie Parker and Adam Coombes were crucial in their title charge last season, and the pair already boast 8 goals between them this season already.
This encounter will mark a 1st ever competitive meeting between the two teams - the stat books will be ready to record the result!
The Gulls
Canvey meanwhile, got back to winning ways on Saturday, making the 1st Round Proper of the Isuzu FA Trophy after a 2-1 win away at Isthmian North side Maldon & Tiptree in the 3rd Qualifying Round.
A 1st senior goal for Sonny Hart and a 3rd goal of the season for Tom Stephen put the Gulls ahead in the 1st half, and they managed to maintain that lead to earn a home tie with fellow Isthmian Premier side Horsham in the next round. They'll be itching to get back to league action though, with the club currently adrift in the drop zone after their opening 7 games. Their league league result though was an impressive win on the road at Chatham Town - something Brad Wellmen will want his side to build on ahead of a packed run of league fixtures in October.
