Canvey Island will look to get back to winning ways this Tuesday evening, as they travel to Cheshunt for a match in the Isthmian League Premier.
Our Opponents
The Ambers are now in their 2nd season back in the Isthmian Premier, following on from their relegation from the National League South in 2023. Last season almost saw then fall through the trap door again, only for a later rally to secure them safety and the promise of Step 3 football once again.
It's been a challenging start to the season however, with the club sitting 17th place and just a point above the relegation zone at the time of writing. That run of bad form recently saw long serving manager Craig Edwards depart, with former Hampton & Richmond manager Mel Gwinnet brought in to steady the ship. They saw a recent upturn in form in the interim period between appointments, though were defeated at the weekend in a 1-0 loss at home to Cray Wanderers.
Gwinnett has inherited a squad with enough quality to steer clear of danager however. Experienced heads like Remi Sutton and Hassan Nalbant bring wisdom into the side, whilst fan favourite Nathaniel Orafu gives a talented edge to an industrious side.
The two sides met twice in the league last season, with a 1-1 draw at Park Lane earned after a Conor Hubble penalty, before the Gulls won 3-1 at Theobolds Lane after a Sam Higgins brace and a goal from Rob Girdlestone.
The Gulls
Canvey meanwhile, will want to get back to winning ways themselves after a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Horsham in the Isuzu FA Trophy 1st Round.
A depleted Gulls side were undone by a goal in either half, leaving them to now focus on the league and county cup. They've been growing into the league however, and a 1-0 home win against Carshalton Athletic showed that they are capable of climbing the table and getting the results needed.
