Canvey Island are back in action after a week off on Saturday, as they travel to North London to face Hendon in the Isthmian League Premier.
Our Opponents
The Dons are a returning name to the Isthmian League after a 5 year absence, following on from an FA reshuffle in 2018 that saw them moved laterally into the Southern League Premier South.
On the back of a playoff final defeat against Dulwich Hamlet, it was a challenging undertaking for the Dons, who saw some of their most talented players snapped up by clubs higher up the pyramid, though they embraced their Southern League odyssey and adapted to life in a new league. Their last season in the division saw them finish a respectable 10th place, before this summer's allocations saw them moved laterally back into their spiritual Isthmian League home.
They've taken to it like a duck to water, with the club sitting in 10th place in the table at the time of writing. Their start to the season has seen them secure some impressive results at home, defeating the likes of Dulwich Hamlet and Cray Valley PM, and absolutely dominating Hastings United in a 9-0 blitz. However, the loss of long serving manager Lee Allinson to National League South side Hemel Hempstead was a blow to the club, with interim manager Marc Charles-Smith overseeing affairs for now. His first test saw his side fall short of the odd goal in 5, losing 3-2 at Hashtag United on Tuesday evening.
Despite the initial setback however, he has the side at his disposal to keep the Dons chasing a spot in the playoffs. The likes of Michael O'Donoghue and Blaise Riley-Snow provide steel at the back, with the attacking presence of Kai Brosnan and club talisman Niki Muir - who scored his 100th club goal in the week - a danger to even the league's best defences.
The Gulls haven't met the Dons in a competitive match since the 16/17 Isthmian Premier season. The two sides met twice, with Canvey 3-1 winners at home thanks to goals from Tony Stokes, Jack Simmons and George Sykes, before they played out a 0-0 draw in North London later in the season.
The Gulls
Canvey meanwhile, will be looking to get back to winning ways themselves after a 2-1 defeat at Lewes in their last outing.
Despite creating many of the games chances, it couldn't stop the Gulls from shipping a goal in either half in East Sussex. Despite Chris Harris pulling a goal back, they couldn't force the equaliser they needed to extend their good away form.
Their home match against Potters Bar Town last Saturday was postponed due to the effects of Storm Darragh.
