Canvey Island continue their busy February schedule at home on Tuesday evening, as they host Bowers & Pitsea for a local derby in the Isthmian League Premier.
Our Opponents
Bowers earned promotion back to the Isthmian Premier at the first time of asking last year, after winning the Isthmian North playoffs, but their return so far has been rough, with the side locked in a battle to beat the drop. Manager James Collins stepped down as a result of their faltering league form, with former player and Runwell Sports manager Luke Wilson being appointed to change their fortunes.
He has a job on his hands however, inheriting a team that has only picked up just 2 points since their last league win on December 21st, with the side anchored down in 19th at the time of writing - 10 points from safety. Their last result saw their wait for a win go on, as they were defeated 3-1 at home by title chasing Dartford on Saturday.
Wilson will want to stamp his brand of football on the team he is working with, and he has players in his side that can pull together the results they need at their best. Goalkeeper David Hughes was an instrumental part of their promotion last season. In midfield, the likes of TQ Addy and the returning Quentin Monville add some flair to their play, and up front, the goals of experienced striker Alex Teniola will be crucial. They also boast two former Gulls in their side in the form of midfielder Luca Albon, who was part of Canvey's title chase in the 22/23 season after joining from Bowers, and forward Reon Smith-Kouassi, who played on loan from Leyton Orient in the later half of last season.
The Gulls have played Bowers already once this season, with goals from Chris Harris and Finlay Dorrell helping Canvey to a 2-1 win over their local rivals on a warm, August bank holiday afternoon in Pitsea.
The Gulls
Canvey meanwhile, got themselves a morale boosting first win in 8 games on Saturday, as they defeated Chatham Town 1-0 at the Steves Taxis Stadium.
A solitary goal from Elliott Ronto was the difference in a battling performance by the goals, in which they completed a league double over their opponents in the process.
The result gives them a four point gap between themselves and the drop zone, and it'll be one they'll be looking to expand against another side in the basement battle - particularly many of the sides around them also in action on Tuesday evening.

Yellow Army, your support on Saturday was loud, proud and unwavering, and we were delighted to give you that win that's felt like a long time coming.
The team greatly appreciates your support, and will need that boost again in a local derby as they look to put more valuable points on the board in their battle to steer away from danger.
