Canvey Island begin a crucial run of fixtures on Tuesday evening, as they play host to Cheshunt at the Steves Taxis Stadium.

Our Opponents
The Ambers, like ourselves, find themselves at the wrong end of the Isthmian Premier table, currently contesting the battle to move away from the drop zone as the table around them tightens. They occupy 16th place at the time of writing, and find themselves just 3 points above the drop zone.

They flirted the the league's basement for much of the season, and long serving manager Craig Edwards step down from his role as a result. In came former Hampton & Richmond manager Mel Gwinnet, and under his tenure, recent results have seen them lift themselves out of the bottom four, having taking a solid 11 points in their last 6 games.

Their recent form has showcased a renewed resilience in the side as they look to maintain their place in the league for another season. This included a recent 4-0 drubbing of Folkestone Invicta and a battling 2-1 win at Potters Bar Town at the weekend - in a case where they finished with just 9 men.

Whilst Gwinnet has a pair of suspensions in his side ahead of this fixture, he still has the makings of a side that can push up the table and return to the sort of form that took them to National League South previously. R'avan Constable is a solid presence between the sticks, while up front, the likes of Sam Granville and Vas Vasiliou garner a potent goal threat. Former Gull Lordon Akolbire is one of those suspended for this fixture (along with Kenny Coker), and they also count Jack Munns in their midfield, who made 21 appearances last season.

The two sides have already met once this season, with Canvey taking all three points on their travels to Hertfordshire. Elliott Ronto got the goal on the night. Last season, the two sides played out a 1-1 draw at Park Lane, while the Gulls grabbed a 3-1 win on their final away game.

The Gulls
Canvey meanwhile, will be looking to end a barren run of 6 straight defeats, after they were beaten 2-0 away from home at title chasing Cray Valley PM on Saturday.

Despite a bright start to the game, the Gulls failed to capitalise in the capital, falling behind midway through the first half, before a second for the hosts killed the game as a contest.

They now enter a run of seven successive games across the next four weeks, in which they face four of the league's current bottom six. They'll want to give no quarter as they look for vital points to move them away from a relegation battle.

With a crucial month now beginning, they'll need that 12th man to deliver in the stands in a succession of absolutely huge fixtures.

Parking at the Steves Taxi's Stadium is free to all but limited to first come / first serve. Additional parking can be found on the adjacent side roads, but please be mindful of our neighbours if using this option. Parking on Park Lane itself is also strongly advised against.
