Canvey Island will look to put an end to their recent poor run of form on Saturday, as they make the trip to South London to take on Cray Valley PM.
Our Opponents
The Millers are enjoying a bright debut to Step 3, with the club currently occupying 3rd at the time of writing, firmly in a playoff position with 9 points between themselves and 6th place, and still in the hunt for the title itself as they are just two points from top spot, with a game in hand over league leaders Billericay Town.
It's been a remarkable rise for a club that for much of it's history has played football in the county league's of step 5 and 6. Their title winning campaign in the 18/19 season saw them also compete in an FA Vase final at Wembley Stadium, before they'd couple last seasons Isthmian South East title win with an appearance in the FA Cup 1st Round Proper. They were handed a local derby against Charlton Athletic, where they took them Addicks to a replay after a draw at The Valley.
This season has seen them continue that positive upturn in fortunes, and they come into this game with just one defeat in their last five games. They recorded a comfortable 4-0 win over the league's current basement side Bognor Regis Town in their last outing on Saturday.
Manager Steve McKimm is no stranger to Isthmian Premier football, having previously managed at Tonbridge Angels and Carshalton Athletic, and has a talented squad at his disposal. Players like Tom Beere and Danny Waldren have plenty of experience in Isthmian football, pacy attackers like Kenny Aileru and Michael Ademiluyi, and a serious hotshot in front of goal in Freddie Parker, who's already notched 19 goals this season.
The two sides met for the first time at The Steves Taxis Stadium last autumn, where they played out a thrilling 4-4 draw on a Tuesday evening. A brace from Jaxon Brown, a goal from Chris Harris and a Conor Hubble penalty were the Canvey contributions to the game.
The Gulls
Canvey meanwhile, will be hoping to reverse recent bad form and get their season back on track, after their fell to a 5th consecutive defeat on Saturday in a 4-2 reverse at Folkestone Invicta.
Despite goals from Emmanuel Adebiyi and an own goal getting Canvey on the scoreboard, they still failed to take anything on the Kent coast, leaving them dangling precariously just two points above the relegation zone.
With a busy month ahead, in which the Gulls also play 4 of the bottom 5, they'll be fixated on picking up as many points as possible to avoid being dragged into a relegation dogfight.
***
Yellow Army, thank you for your committed support away from home again on Saturday. In a long January that's often hard on the wallet for many, and hasn't been an easy watch on the pitch, we greatly appreciate those who have continued to stick by the squad in this sticky patch.
There is still much to play for though in a long and winding Isthmian League campaign, and a win on Saturday could make all the difference. We hope to have you there again to share in that moment when it happens, and we have no doubt we'll see the same loyal faces in Eltham on Saturday.
We wish all travelling a safe and easy journey to South London.
