Canvey Island will look to secure 3 valuable points on the road this Saturday, as they make the long journey down to Whitehawk in the Isthmian League Premier.
Our Opponents
The Hawks, like ourselves, are another of the sides who've been dragged into the battle to beat the drop, with their sophomore season back at Step 3 not having all gone to plan so far.
The departure of manager Shaun Saunders in the summer led a major overhaul major overhaul of the squad, but early results saw the Hawks struggle, with new boss Ross McNeilly, and his successor David Altendorf both unable to turn the clubs fortunes around.
The cycle brought Saunders back to the Enclosed Ground for a 2nd stint, and under his tenure, results have improved, with much of the squad he had last season returning and able to take a valuable ten points in their last six games to lift them out of the drop zone. Their resurgence in form was capped off with an impressive 2-0 win away at Dover Athletic last Saturday.
Saunders has his band back together, and will be looking push the Hawks up to mid table safety. The liked of Will Seager and Andrew Briggs provide a stern backline, with Emmanuel Mensah their midfield engine and the goals of Charlie Walker up front a warning to any defence in the league.
The two sides met earlier in the season at the Steves Taxis Stadium, with Canvey taking a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Jaxon Brown and Bradley Sach.
The Gulls
Canvey meanwhile, will want to get back to winning ways themselves after a disappointing result in the league last weekend at home to Bognor Regis Town.
A disjointed performance against the league's bottom side saw the Gulls beaten comprehensively 4-0. They were able remedy that though by booking their place in the final of the Essex Senior Cup on Tuesday evening, knocking out National League South side Chelmsford City in the semi final.
After a goalless draw by 90 minutes, it was Bobby Mason who was the hero of the hour for the Gulls, saving 3 penalties to help Canvey reach their first county cup final since 2012.
***
Yellow Army, thank you for your excellent support here on Tuesday evening. You truly were the 12th man on a fantastic evening for the club, with a final in the calendar something to look forward to.
There is still work to be done though, and the squad will want the Yellow Army backing them on the road again this weekend.
We wish all traveling a safe and easy journey down to Brighton.
